Smithfield’s Second Annual “Senior” Prom

There was a buzz in the air on June 20th at the Crystal Lake Golf Club in Pascoag, as people began to arrive at the “Grecian Gala” to enjoy an afternoon of music, dancing, and fun. This year marked the second annual “Senior” Prom, organized by the wonderful and hardworking staff from the Smithfield Senior Center.

All were welcome to “come and party it up with all your friends!”
Kate McAdam-Prickett, assistant director of activities and programs at the senior center, said, “although we didn’t see any togas, we still saw some Grecian adorned ladies.” The attendees enjoyed an array of delicious food, had the opportunity to have their “prom” photo taken, and danced the night away to some great music.
Everyone involved, including numerous sponsors of the event, did their best to ensure that each guest felt special. Crowns, which were generously donated by Burger King, were uniquely hand decorated by Beth Vincent, with gold and silver stars. Each gentleman attending the prom received one and were all crowned prom “kings.” Each lady was given a long-stemmed rose, and they were all part of the Queen’s Court. No detail was spared in making it a night to remember.
As you can imagine, an event like this took a lot of time, planning, and support, to pull off. This is where women like Beth Vincent, and Sheila Fontes stepped up to the plate. Sheila took on the role of prom

planner. She also pieced together the beautiful table centerpieces, as well as a separate, but equally as stunning, centerpiece for the charcuterie table, and organized 12 raffle baskets. A huge thank you was extended, “for always making every celebration for the Senior Center so incredibly special.” In true prom night fashion, a queen was crowned, and Beth Vincent took home that title, to commemorate all she has done for the center. Finally, Kate was crowned the “Grecian Princess” of the day.
It would be remiss to not mention all the generous donations from every business that took the time to offer their services and support to make it a great prom. Denise Dionne from Navigant, who sponsored the charcuterie table, and Nicole Gomes from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island. John Salois from the Medicare Store sponsored the photographer for the prom. Each guest received a special picture, and as a party favor, they received a picture frame for their photo. Chris and Lindsay Whitten from Premeer Realty, who generously donated Chris’ time and talents as a DJ to “spin some serious tunes.” Kayla, and the entire staff at Crystal Lake, who went above and beyond to ensure the satisfaction of each guest. And especially thank you to all those who attended the prom!
It was such a magical night, full of friendship and fun. The community really came together to pull off a night to remember! Thanks to everyone who made it possible. “Senior” Prom Night 2025, here we come!
