Running Bases and Catching Dreams

Running Bases and Catching Dreams

A huge congratulations are for the Community College of Rhode Island’s softball team, which traveled to Chattanooga, TN, to play in the NCAA Division III World Series in May. Not only did the girls finish sixth in the nation, but this is the first time the team has been nationally ranked in the history of the softball program. Under Head Coach Paul Mercier, and Assistant Coach (and Smithfield Resident) Bob Sasso, the girls pulled off an amazing season, finishing 33-5. They played in the World Series, and the team won the Northeast District Championship and their first regional title since 2016! I personally was able to see them in action, and their dedication as a team shone through. It wasn’t an easy road, but they came together, played their best, and it paid off big time. It was truly a historic season. Wonderful job girls. We’re all proud of you!
