Greenville Baptist Church Thrift Shop Now Accepting Donations

Greenville Baptist Church does a lot of charitable work, from their clothing drives, home repairs, food pantry, aid for the homeless, veterans ministries, and mission trips around the country and overseas. Jan Thomas— a church member and volunteer—wanted to remind the community that their Thrift Shop is now open for business after taking the summer off. The Greenville Baptist Church Thrift Shop accepts most any items you have to offer.
“Any small items that are usable we will take,” Jan says. “We accept donations of clothing, household items, bedding, cooking utensils. The only things we cannot accept are computer electronics or pieces of furniture because we just have no storage space for those large items.”
Most everything else is fair game, if the item is clean and usable, that’s the key.
“Give something that you wouldn’t mind receiving yourself,” Jan says.
Jan has been doing volunteer work at the Greenville Baptist Church for over 50 years. The thrift shop was organized in 1963 and operated from the church house. It was later moved to the education building where it occupied a small room until a new building was built with its own funds.
The thrift shop is located at the back of the Greenville Baptist Church at 582 Putnam Pike, and there is plenty of parking. The thrift shop is open every Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The thrift shop, like the other charitable endeavors the Greenville Baptist Church undertakes, are all managed by volunteers, and you will find Jan, Shelly Lanni, Phyllis Barton, or other church volunteers at the thrift shop ready to assist you, whether you are donating an item or if you are interested in owning a donated item. The one thing Jan asks is that people donating items make sure that they drop off their property during business hours and not leave them outside during times when they are closed because they cannot take anything that has been left outside for any length of time.
If someone absolutely cannot make it to the thrift shop during the hours of operation, they can call the church office and arrange to have a volunteer meet them at the thrift shop to receive the donation.
We are heading into the holiday season now, and as you replace your Thanksgiving, Christmas, and even Halloween decorations, rather than putting their old decorations in deep storage in the basement, consider donating them to the thrift shop. These items are always very popular.
So, donate your clean and unwanted goods today to the good people at the Greenville Baptist Church Thrift Shop. If you have any questions about whether something you want to donate will be accepted, you may contact the church office at 401-949-1134.
