In My Dreams I Hold a Knife by Ashley Winstead
A college reunion turns dark and deadly in this chilling and propulsive suspense novel about six friends, one unsolved murder, and the dark secrets they’ve been hiding from each other—and themselves—for a decade (Goodreads).
This novel kept me on my toes, constantly wondering what would happen next, and trying to guess the mystery. A great, quick read, I devoured this book in one day, and loved every second. The author does a fantastic job of making the main character unlikeable, while simultaneously compelling readers to root for her. The flawed characters are written very well, and each character has their own depth. The use of split-time in this book, allowing for the past and present to be revealed at the same time, keeps readers engaged and invested in the novel. With an unexpected and fantastic ending, this thriller is definitely one to read on a rainy day.
Out-Laws on Netflix
This Netflix original does not fall short of laughs. A straight-laced bank manager is about to marry the love of his life when his bank is held up by infamous Ghost Bandits during his wedding week. He then believes his future in-laws who just arrived in town, are the infamous Out-Laws (IMDB).
Don’t let the rating fool you, if you’re looking for a ridiculous laugh, this is the perfect movie to watch. A main cast consisting of Adam Devine, Pierce Brosnan, Nina Dobrev, Michael Rooker, and Ellen Barkin, with just as of a funny ensemble cast, there’s sure to be giggles. With a mix of pop culture references, an absurd plot, a great soundtrack, and a fantastic main cast, this movie is packed with action and craziness.
Game Changers on Dropout
If you’re looking for an unscripted comedy show, Game Changers is the perfect fit. A comedy panel game show on Dropout created and hosted by Sam Reich. The show follows players, typically three comedians, who participate in a new game every episode, with the players usually kept unaware of the premise and rules of the game beforehand. According to Polygon, the show “combines improv comedy, puzzle solving, fierce competition, and a prankster ethos.” (Wikipedia)
While it may not be a streaming service, you’re familiar with, Dropout is a comedy and sketch comedy based streaming service. Game Changers, possibly the most well-known, has aired six seasons, each getting bigger and better than the last. An entertaining watch, as viewers must also figure out what the game is along with the players, full of creativity, jokes, and fun. Each game somehow becomes more creative, and has viewers wondering “Why didn’t I think that could become a game?”
Don’t Forget Me by Maggie Rogers
A summer or road trip album, Don’t Forget Me is a dance worthy album, that makes you want to bop your head and hit your hand on the side of your leg along with the beat. It is an album filled with variety: with loud, groovy songs, but also slower, emotional songs. My personal favorites are “So Sick of Dreaming,” “The Kill,” and “On & On & On.”
