Put your hands together for Leo Chabot. A 15-year-old Smithfield High School student who was recently recognized for all his hard work, academic achievements, leadership skills, and passion for environmental science and conservation studies.
Leo received an invitation to represent Smithfield as a National Student Delegate at this year’s Washington Youth Summit on the Environment, which will be hosted at George Mason University. From June 23 to June 28, he will join 100 other select students from across the country and will have the opportunity to learn about different paths within the industry that he can pursue in the future.
The goal of the Summit is to “develop and encourage future leaders in the important field of environmental science and conservation studies in the 21st Century… Delegates gain an insider look at environmental science, policy, and conservation issues.”
Leo is excited to “meet other smart kids from all over the country, and talk about our interests, goals, and dreams.” He’s so grateful for the chance to learn new things and make new friends who share his passion for making a difference in the world. He plans to use this opportunity to grow as a person and a leader and hopes to meet notable personnel who can help guide him.
When he’s not trying to make the world a better place, Leo can be found on the field. He’s part of the Smithfield High football team, as well as a member of the wrestling team. He loves both sports, and finds that they teach him to work hard, work as a team, and to never give up. He is also part of the National Junior Honor Society, which is a group of students who are recognized for their academic success and partake in community service projects. Leo has support coming from all angles, but his biggest supporters are his parents and two dogs, who are always cheering him on!
Congratulations and good luck Leo! We can’t wait to see all that you do.
