Hundreds of people attended the Smithfield Fire Department’s annual Open House on October 5. The headquarters at 607 Putnam Pike featured the department’s vehicles and information about fire prevention.
There were also displays of equipment and turnout gear. The Johnston Fire Department “smoke trailer” was on hand to show how to evacuate a home in the case of a fire.
There was also the opportunity to put out a fire with the use of an extinguisher.
The event, part of National Fire Prevention Month, was sponsored by the Smithfield Fire Department, Home Depot and Papa Gino’s.
