I am grateful to John Tassoni and the staff at “The Smithfield Times” for the opportunity to contribute a monthly column. I didn’t want to start my first piece with my gratitude and some background because I feared I would lose your interest. So stick with me for another 190 words or so.
I am a former newspaper, correspondent, reporter, editor and publisher, and my wife Andria and I published the “Senior Digest,” a monthly paper for people age 50 and older, for about 10 years. I’m a native of Massachusetts, but I used to live in Rhode Island and I worked in this beautiful state for many years.
I embarked on my newspaper journalism journey after graduating from Syracuse University in 1977. I am a dedicated fan of Orange sports, and I’m an avid follower and fan of New England professional sports teams and many of our area college squads as long as they are not facing SU.
We want the Senior Scene to focus on activities for us older adults. The plan is to publish information about a variety of pursuits, including recreational, fitness, cultural and spiritual activities. If you have any comments or suggestions, please send an email to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“Happy trails to you.”
